Heroism is essentially defined by the perceiver, the outsider. A person's actions are based on his sense of right and wrong, beliefs, the situations he finds himself in and many other things. It is the perception of these actions and their consequences that makes him a "Hero". There is no reason why AKN should restrict his choices to simply fit your image of a hero. Heroism is not eternal, and neither is hero worship. Tomorrow you will find another hero at your univ, and fresh batches will find another hero in the dept(mostly because they want to find one). Yes, there is certainly the loss of arguably the best prof in the dept and that is a big loss...but there has to be a sense of perspective.
